He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.
2 Chronicles 12:14

The recurring theme. He did evil.

It’s easy to spot evil.  Everyone points it out.  Finding the root cause is harder.

Evil wasn’t revealed in just the actions of the king.

The Bible speaks to the evil that was in his heart because it was not right with God.

Evil is not just found in actions, but the root of evil is found in our heart’s desire.

Watch the evening news for very long and you will have to think, “How could anyone do something that evil?”

Here is the answer, they stop seeking after the things of God.

Once you set a course away from God – the destination can be very scary.

Avoid the problem – seek after God’s ways . . . now!

Today’s Reading – 1 Kings Chapters 12-14

Try hard enough and you can find someone to tell you what you want to hear.

We can rationalize any behavior.

We can find someone that will agree with our opinion.

The advent of social media has made all of this even easier.

When you seek advice, don’t just find people that will tell you what you want to hear.

Find the people that will tell you what you need to hear.

Then you will find wisdom.

Then you will become wise.

Day 173

Today’s Reading – Proverbs 30-31

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

Proverbs 31:10

Proverbs Thirty-One spells out a pretty clear picture of a Godly woman.

When I was in seminary all the single guys would talk about how they were looking for a P31 kinda woman – As in Proverbs 31.

I am fortunate to have a P31 Wife.

This past year she has:

  • moved us to a new place and made it a home
  • managed a transition for our son with Down Syndrome
  • carved her own niche in a new church congregation
  • made new friends and maintained old ones
  • beat Cancer and endured a 12+ hour surgery
  • and had knee revision surgery

She did all that with the grace of Proverbs 31.

Much has changed in 20+ years of marriage, but her Godly character has remained consistent.

One other thing that has remained consistent … I am one lucky guy that is in love with a P31 woman.
