Day 121

Today’s Reading – 2 Samuel 5 and 1 Chronicles 11-12
When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron,
the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD,
and they anointed David king over Israel.
2 Samuel 5:3 NIV

David is now king.

He will conquer Jerusalem and take up residence in the fortress and build up the city.

But no one accomplishes things of this magnitude without help.

David has waited a long time to become king.

He has endured much to this point.
It would be easy in this moment to declare a holiday and proclaim, “David is Awesome Day” throughout the land.
After all, it is good to be king!

Instead David chooses this time to reward the mighty men who have helped him.

David reminds us that no matter what greatness we achieve, we need to be careful to remember all the people that helped us achieve the greatness we have.

In this “all about me” culture that is easy to forget.

Remember all those that have helped you to this point in your life and take time to say, “Thank you!”

So next time you are in the limelight, take time to honor those that helped you get there.

I am a United Methodist Pastor and have the privilege of serving as the Senior Pastor for the church of my childhood. I preach in a place I once was an acolyte. I love to preach, but more importantly I love to teach. I firmly believe that Faith Matters and should affect how we live. This blog is a place where I come to share the randomness that is life and faith ... and the intersection of the two.
