Day 48 Reading – Leviticus Chapters 14-15
This is the Instruction concerning those who have an infection of skin disease but who cannot afford the normal means of purification. Leviticus 14:32 CEB
I know this is a couple of weird chapters on personal hygiene, but there is something to be learned.
Care and accommodations for those that cannot afford the normal means …
That’s not a phrase you expect to find in Leviticus or for that matter in the Bible.
I mean doesn’t the Bible say, “Pull yourself up by the boot straps!” BTW … it doesn’t.
Perhaps we need to spend more time in our churches talking about how we make way for those that can find purification through the normal means.
Unfortunately we spend most of our times talking about those people that are not doing it the normal way.
Perhaps if we had these honest conversations we might discover what hospitality and outreach really look like in order to reach those that won’t be able to come to God through normal means.
The practice that began in the desert with the Israelites needs to find its way into our cities and churches.
Truth is … we can’t AFFORD not too!
